Of the possiblity of space

Around 20 young people from Germany and Poland came together more than a year ago to look for something they had in common….
What to look for was the question then. Something to do with theatre – alright, this explains the name theatreuniversity – but of course not only. And yes, it should touch fields of sociology, philosophy and arts in gereral; politics of course, too. Something not only to help us to explore „framed fields“ of action, no, we wanted to go directly to where we all came from: to the chaos of the cities, the villages, to the people and their history. And even more: we wanted nothing to only read and talk about, it would also be nice to touch, smell, hear, eat, do and maybe even be it. A common ground then should be experienced. We thought about it. We thought more about it. Then suddenly a funny thing came by and its name was space.
Space, it seemed, fulfiled all those functions: a nice and catchy thing it was, five-letters, but so big the impact. Present everywhere around us and yet at a first sight ungraspable. A thing that really everybody could say something about, but no one more than a couple of words. The question of what to look for resulted in the question of where to look. The answer explainig so much, but never enough was: in space.
The rest, it now seems, is history. A years` work of discussing, working, playing together is over. The four meetings we had, two in Frankfurt(Oder), two in Szczecin, went by and so did space.
But something of this process we want to keep here, show what the notion of space is and can be. It is hopefully something what all of us wanted it to be, not so much a summary of what happened or will happen, but a collection of some of our personal insights. Of something, that each one of us found somewhere in his private life to recycle, something what maybe nobody was caring about anymore or not yet; to show it to another, to share, to let one another not forget what possibilities are hidden in space. Something hopefully that shows how to find something we have in common despite of all differences. Finally it still is one space we live in. And maybe those differences are only a result of those different positions we take in space. But with a position in space comes possibility. And maybe this is what toposse is all about…
